The Garden - Green Fingers Required
Apologies for being slow to post again, but I have been a bit preoccupied as we have finally moved into Number One! So all the work is done for now...yay!
For those of you who don't know, at the moment I am writing this blog retrospectively, to make sure I can pass on any advice that I pick up before, during and after each project, as that's what this blog is all about. So I am actually sitting on my sofa in my complete living room, and feeling very nostalgic looking through these photos of the house in July. Please excuse the state of the garden - this is literally how it was when we arrived, complete with old to let sign that Choices took forever to collect.
I thought I dig back into to regular posting by start a series of before images giving context for further posts with more tips for you guys. I'm starting with the garden, which wraps the property on two sides and with a gravel pathway and parking space at the front. The grass, in the pictures below, is actually quite a steep bank with the shed and log store at the top. The bottom of the bank is a pathway which meets the edge of the house and leads to the back of the property where we have a patio area, that is currently being eaten by a large raspberry bush.
Oddly the original front door is on the left side of the property as you approach it from the road. At the moment, we are using the kitchen door to enter the house as it's more direct from the road. I am hoping we might be able to build a driveway from our parking space and landscape down to the door with a little pathway and steps. Watch this space!
The main feature of the house for me, apart from the Victorian style are the arched windows on the ground floor, echoed in the front/back door awning. The arches are something I wants to respect and echo in the house. Outside, I've considered getting an arched mirror to position against the fencing that I hope we will get back to once we trim away the plant that is engulfing our Rotary line, but I'm not 100% sure yet.
I do know I want to have a cool, calm and almost tropical/holiday feel to the space, with lots of unusual plants. I collated my ideas and created the below mood board, I'd love to know what you think!
